Decoration Day
Decoration Day
Decoration Day at Panquin Cemetery is always on the first Sunday of May each year. Many people come out on Friday and Saturday before decoration to clean their tombstones and prepare to decorate the gravesite.
The cemetery board is usually present during Decoration Day weekend to hand out flyers, answer questions, give and collect information, and accept monetary donations among other things. We would love to see you that weekend - make plans to come by the pavilion and check out what is new!
Flower Removal
The cemetery board and volunteers from the community usually remove all flowers from the gravesites around two weeks before Decoration Day. If you want to keep your flowers, please remove them prior to this date or you will risk having them discarded during this cleanup.
Note: Please refrain from adding new flowers or decorations during this time frame.
Flower Maintenance
The storms and wind can wreak havoc on the flowers you place on the gravesites. We have provided some hints for you to help reduce the likelihood of this happening to your flowers:
Put a piece of tape with the grave name on the flowers in case the wind does blow them off - this will make it easier to know which grave they belong to
Use floral foam in tombstone vases to help anchor the flowers
When placing saddle-style flowers, bend the metal anchors close together before placing them on the tombstone - this will help to keep them tight
